Do Not Pump Flood Water Directly To Sewer System; Flushing Of Toilets Can Resume

Flushing of Toilets, Use of Showers, Washing Machines Can Resume, But Please Only Use What Needed

Cranbrook, BC (March 19, 2017 - 7:50am)
– An over capacity of water in the City's sewer system is believed to be causing some basements to back up around the Cranbrook.  That is a result of an investigation by Public Works crews overnight Saturday and into early Sunday morning.

The area most affected is from 15th Avenue South to 18th Avenue South, between 4th Street South and 6th Street South around the St. Mary's School area and may possibly impact other areas south of that.

If you live in this area and have important items stored in the basement, please move those items to a higher floor as soon as possible.

If you are dealing with flooding issues and are actively pumping water out, please allow it to simply flow outside and not directly into the City's sewer system.  Public Works believes this is part of the issue.

Further updates will be continue to be provided throughout the day as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
