2024 Scooter season comes to an end Friday, November 1, 2024.
They will be back in spring 2025!
The City of Cranbrook is participating in the Provincial Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Project. The purpose of the pilot project is to assist the BC Government in determining if and how electric kick scooters should be authorized for permanent use in the province. Bird Canada pays the City a negotiated fee to provide the service here. No City tax dollars are being used. The service officially launched on Monday, June 3, 2024.
What Are E-Scooters?
E-scooters are electric kick scooters that can be used in communities participating in the Provincial Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Project. They must meet the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Act. There are two parts to the E-Scooter Pilot Program:
- The City has contracted Bird Canada Inc. to operate an e-scooter public share program (rental e-scooters)
- People can ride their own E-Scooters within City limits (privately owned e-scooters)
Finding An E-Scooter
Riders can find and rent e-scooters throughout the City and in parking areas identified in the map below. You can also download the Bird Canada App from both the Apple App Store & Google Play and use the map to find and reserve the closest e-scooter. You can reserve an E-Scooter up to 30 minutes in advance.
Ride Passes, Special Programs & Cost Information
A standard pay-per-use fee structure will be set at $1 to unlock the e-scooter, plus $0.35 per minute. Daily, weekly, or monthly ride passes will also be available, along with a low-income pricing program.
Road Rules For Electric Kick Scooters
Riders must be at least 16 years old and must wear a helmet. A driver’s license and insurance are not required.

Next Steps & Public Feedback
Bird Canada Scooters Inc (Bird) will be providing an E-Scooter rental program within the City. The City will be monitoring the pilot program and will work with Bird to make any adjustments to the e-scooter pilot program.
