Change Your Smoke Alarm Batteries When You Change Your Clocks This Weekend
Cranbrook, BC (March 7, 2017) -- Clocks officially move forward at 2:00am local time this weekend on Sunday March 12. Most people change their clocks on Saturday night before going to bed.
With the time change, Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services asks residents to inspect all of your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. Ensure you test them and replace all the batteries. Smoke alarms should also be replaced every seven to 10 years.
Having working smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside every bedroom and on each floor of your home is strongly recommended. More than 2300 people die each year in home fires. Having a smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm that works 24 hours a day greatly increases your chances of survival in the case of a fire.
