Water Backing Into City Sewer System, May Cause Potential Sewer Backups

Cranbrook, BC (March 18, 2017) – Water is backing into a section of the City's sewer system which is causing some basements to back up Saturday night.

The area affected is from 15th Avenue South to 18th Avenue South, between 4th Street South and 6th Street South around the St. Mary's School area and may possibly impact other areas south of that.   Public Works is on scene working to isolate the problem and fix it.

If you live in this area and have important items stored in the basement, please move those items to a higher floor as soon as possible.

Residents in this area and immediately south of that vicinity are asked to please not to flush their toilets, shower, bathe or use their dishwashers or washing machines until further notice.   The City wants to minimize the amount of additional water using the sewer system until this issue can be corrected.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.   Thank you for your patience and understanding as the City works to fix this quickly.
