Cranbrook, BC (November 19, 2024) – As temperatures drop, it’s important to stay vigilant about the potential dangers that ice on our local lakes and streams can create. Thin ice forms quickly and can be especially hazardous for people, children, and pets.
For your safety, please stay off any ice until it is at least six inches thick. This includes Joseph Creek, Idlewild, and Elizabeth Lakes, where conditions can vary, and ice thickness may be unpredictable.
We strongly encourage parents and caregivers to talk to their children about the risks associated with thin ice. It's essential that everyone, especially adults, lead by example and avoid stepping onto ice surfaces. Pets should also be kept away from open water and thin ice to prevent accidents.
