Cranbrook, BC (July 29, 2025) – Stability continues in the volume of calls handled by Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services as the department reports managing 568 calls for service in the second quarter of 2025. That is compared to 525 calls for service the department responded to in the first quarter of the year.
In an update to Council Monday night, Fire & Emergency Services highlighted the ratio of Fire Rescue calls vs Pre-Hospital Care calls continues at 29% and 71%, respectively. The distribution of calls across the community remains steady for the past three quarters, with focal areas near the downtown core and near the highway corridor.
“Call volumes in the community have remained stable for three straight quarters, which is good news for everyone as we head into wildfire season,” says Chief Scott Driver. “We know the summer heat is coming, and we won’t avoid it completely, but a slower start to the hot, dry weather gives us a chance to focus on preventing human-caused fires. We're grateful for the breathing room this steady spring, and early part of July has provided.”
Pre-Hospital Care accounted for 405 of the incidents in Q2 2025, of which there were 30 different types of medical emergencies reported. Overdose/poisoning/ingestion emergencies were the most common incident with 54 total calls in the quarter, followed by breathing problems (49), seizures (46), chest pain (40), falls/back injuries (37) and sick persons (23).
With respect to fire responses, the Fire Department attended 5 structure fires, 62 outdoor/miscellaneous fires and 50 fire alarm activations. Rescue services were required at 46 incidents for a total of 163 incidents related to Fire or Rescue.
