Cranbrook, BC (April 15, 2024) – The next big step in our preparation for the start of our long-awaited automated garbage collection program in Cranbrook is to begin the first week of May with the delivery of the garbage collection carts to residents.
Between May 9 and May 24, 2024, the City’s contractor will be delivering one, 240 litre wheeled cart for garbage to each residential household, along with an information guide. If you had already requested a smaller 120 litre garbage cart, it will be delivered to you instead. Each cart is tagged and has its own serial number that is connected to each household. It is important that garbage carts stay with the designated household, and residents that move do not take any garbage or recycling collection carts with them.
The garbage collection cart will be delivered to the end of your driveway or walkway. We ask that you please remove the cart from this location and place it in a more secure area (ex: in your garage, backyard, or alternative location) until your collection day. If you have not received a cart by Monday, May 27, 2024, please notify the City via 311. We ask for your patience during the cart delivery, as it takes time to coordinate and fulfill any additional requests we may receive during the initial roll-out.
With the move to automated garbage collection, it is important to remember that garbage will continue to be collected on a weekly basis. Recycling will continue to be collected bi-weekly.
The City is scheduled to officially begin residential automated garbage collection services on Monday, June 3, 2024. It is important that any garbage placed out for collection on, or after June 3, is only placed in the curbside garbage collection cart and placed at the curb for collection. Additional garbage will not be collected.
