Cranbrook, BC (March 31, 2025) – A new multi-use pathway on McPhee Road between Theatre Road to Industrial Road F is set to be constructed this summer, as part of the City’s 2025 Capital Works program, thanks to a $500,000 grant from the BC Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants program announced on Thursday March 27, 2025.
The McPhee Road Corridor Improvement project will include new curb, gutter, asphalt, and signage, with the multi-use pathway to be raised and separated from the driving lanes along McPhee Road to promote safe active transportation. Along with construction of the pathway to be located on the north east side of McPhee Road, the City will also be resurfacing this portion of McPhee as the roadway has reached its end of life.
“This project was identified in the City’s Active Transportation plan as a critical connection into our industrial area and Moir Park,” says Mayor Wayne Price. “On behalf of the City of Cranbrook and Council, I want to thank the Province of BC and the Ministry of Transportation and Transit for this important funding and for understanding the importance of creating and sustaining safe cycling and walking paths for our community.”
City staff will be working over the next month to prepare for the public bidding process for construction upgrades, which is anticipated to be completed late this summer.
The Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants program funds Indigenous, local, and regional governments with cost-sharing investments of up to $500,000 for infrastructure projects and as much as $50,000 in funding to develop active transportation network plans. These projects make it safer and more efficient for people to use active transportation in their communities.
