Cranbrook, BC (April 17, 2024) – The requirement to license your dog or cat in the City of Cranbrook is easier thanks to the City’s partnership with DocuPet.
New licenses or renewals are now made easy by being able to license your dog or cat online at cranbrook.docupet.com. For accessible pet licensing, residents can still license by mail, over the phone, or in-person at City Hall.
“We are excited about our partnership with DocuPet, as their online licensing platform will be easy for pet owners to use and necessary for animal safety within the community,” says Paul Heywood, Manager of Building & Bylaw Services. “This pet licensing partnership will help reduce the number of stray animals while providing unique licensing options for all residents. We are excited for pet owners to utilize this new easy-to-use program.”
The City’s partnership with DocuPet also includes a complimentary 24/7 lost pet service with the purchase of a license. Every DocuPet tag is equipped with the HomeSafeTM lost pet service technology. All tags are equipped with a unique code on the back, linking directly to the pet's secure online profile and allowing for the dog or cat to be back at home in minutes. As well, the City’s partnership with DocuPet include 24/7 dispatch staff to help reunite lost pets with their families.
The cost to license a dog is $30 (sterilized) or $60 (non-sterilized), while the cost to license a cat is $15 (sterilized) or $30 (non-sterilized) as per the City’s Animal Control Bylaw. Dog and cat licenses are valid for 1 year (365 days) from the time of purchase.
“We are very proud to kick off this effective program with the City of Cranbrook to increase pet identification and reunification services for all residents,” says Grant Goodwin, CEO of DocuPet. “Lost pets wearing DocuPet license tags spend little to no time in the shelter versus unlicensed pets. Running an effective pet identification program is incredibly important for the welfare of pets in the community, so we thank the City for coming on board to be an impactful part of the solution.”
