Cranbrook, BC (March 11, 2024) – Administration has secured the services of Cover Architecture Collaborative Inc., out of Nelson through a public request for proposal call, to collaborate with the City of Cranbrook in its effort to prepare an application to the BC ChildCare New Spaces Grant.
The ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund provides funding to create new licensed childcare, helping families access affordable, quality, and inclusive childcare as a core service they can depend on, while strengthening communities throughout the province.
Administration provided an update to Council at their regular meeting on Monday, March 11, 2024.
At the regular meeting of Council on October 30, 2023, Council provided direction to staff to engage with a consultant to prepare an application to the BC ChildCare New Spaces Grant.
In partnership with Cover Architecture Collaborative Inc., the City will meet three key goals to submit the grant application to the Province by the end of June 2024:
- Site Selection: to review the current childcare provisions supplied and needed in Cranbrook along with current locations to then determine potential priority areas of need, while identifying the ideal location(s) for a future childcare centre, which would then indicate the type and number of childcare spaces that would support priority areas.
- Design: draft site and building plans to enough detail to include architectural, structural, mechanical, landscape and civil estimates, and prepare a Class D estimate.
- BC Childcare Grant Application: prepare and submit the Childcare BC New Spaces Fund application.
