Cranbrook, BC (September 10, 2024) – Effective at midnight Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the City of Cranbrook is returning to Stage 1 watering restrictions, thanks to the incredible commitment of the community to conserve water this spring and summer.

“The conscious efforts of everyone in Cranbrook to help us conserve water has had such a positive impact on our water levels in Phillips Reservoir, and our overall water supply for the City,” says Jason Perrault, Deputy Director of Public Works. “Today, our reservoir is full and our creeks that feed our reservoir have stabilized. Along with the Province reducing our creek flow rating and more rain in the forecast this week, we felt it was time that we could return to Stage 1 watering restrictions.”

Under Stage 1 watering restrictions, even numbered properties may water Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Odd numbered properties may water Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays between the hours of 5am and 10am or 8pm and 11pm to a maximum of two hours, in the morning or the evening – not both. No one is allowed to water on Wednesdays. This will remain in effect until further notice.

The City had been under Stage 3 restrictions from late August 2023 until early January 2024, when water levels improved enough that we could move to Stage 2 to allow Public Works staff and residents take advantage of a cold snap to build outdoor ice rinks. The City has remained in Stage 2 restrictions ever since due to poor snow conditions in the watershed last winter, which put pressure on the amount of available water for the community through this past summer.
