Cranbrook, BC (December 12, 2025) – After much deliberation and discussion by Council this fall, the proposed City of Cranbrook tax increase for 2026 is projected be 5.67% which includes a 1% increase to the dedicated road improvement tax, following their budget meeting on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. The final tax increase is subject to change until the final budget and tax increase is approved by Council in the spring.
This proposed tax increase is to maintain services with no enhancements, except for more funding to improve city roads. The final budget allows the City to continue to manage operating costs, while maintaining the essential services residents and businesses rely on, and continuing to invest in infrastructure.
The final special Council meeting for the 2026-2030 Five-Year Financial Plan is set for Wednesday, January 21, 2026 from 3pm to 7pm in Council Chambers at City Hall. The meeting will also be livestreamed @ https://cranbrook.ca/livestream.
This meeting includes a review of the proposed budget, updates from the December 2025 budget meetings, and presentation of the final budget ahead of Council giving three readings and adopting the 2026–2030 Five-Year Financial Plan during regular meetings in February 2026.
