Cranbook
Cranbrook, BC (July 31, 2026) -- On Wednesday night (July 29, 2026), Fire and Emergency Services responded to a fire alarm activation in an apartment building on the 500 block of Victoria Avenue North in Cranbrook.
On-duty firefighters arrived on scene to discover a contents fire in a single suite in the building. Firefighters made entry into the suite where the fire was extinguished. The lone occupant of the suite, a mature male, sadly did not survive the incident.
Investigators were on scene Thursday (July 30) to determine cause and origin of the fire. At this time, the fire does not appear suspicious, however the investigation is ongoing.
Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services would like to share their appreciation for the professional assistance of our partners at the Cranbrook RCMP and the BC Coroners Service for their help and expertise during the incident and investigation.
