Cranbrook, BC (April 7, 2025) – Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services, and the City of Cranbrook are excited to announce the promotion of Training Coordinator Murray Robertson to the position of Deputy Fire Chief, following the well-deserved retirement of current Deputy Fire Chief Dan MacKinnon.
Robertson has been with Cranbrook Fire since 2008, giving over a decade of service to both the community and the department. He has worked in many important roles, starting as a firefighter, then as Fire Prevention Coordinator, and is now the Training Coordinator. Robertson also stays active with the Cranbrook Professional Firefighters Association as an Executive member and has served on the Burn Fund Board.
The selection of Robertson as Deputy Fire Chief follows a competitive hiring process, which included the City’s Chief Administrative Officer, Director of Human Resources, a representative from the Cranbrook Professional Firefighters Local 1253, and Fire Chief Scott Driver.
"On behalf of the hiring committee, I am very pleased to announce Murray’s promotion. His unwavering commitment to both the department and our community, along with his extensive experience and leadership skills, make him an ideal fit for this important role,” said Scott Driver, Fire Chief. “Murray’s dedication to his team and his passion for community service will be invaluable as we continue to enhance and grow the organization."
Please join us in welcoming Murray to his new position and in thanking Dan MacKinnon for his years of dedicated service to Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services. MacKinnon’s last day is May 2, 2025.
