Cranbrook, BC (August 20, 2024) – Even with the rainfall we’ve received over the past few weeks, creek flow into Cranbrook’s Phillips Reservoir is not increasing which is why the City of Cranbrook is continuing to hold water restrictions at Stage 2 for the foreseeable future.
The average flow through the Phillips Reservoir since the last public update on July 15, 2024 sits at 5.06 million imperial gallons per day (IGPD) or 23.02 million litres per day which is an increase of 1.44 million IGPD (6.55 million litres per day) from the last update. Compared to the same time frame in 2023, the consumption average has decreased by an average of 128,659 IGPD (584,895 million litres per day).
“I want to thank all of our residents and businesses, who have done all they can to help us conserve water this summer,” says Mayor Wayne Price. “The efforts our community have made around consciously watering less is having an incredibly positive impact on the Phillips Reservoir and our City’s water supply. Without your support our situation would have been quite different heading into the fall. Thank you!”
The Phillips Reservoir continues to fluctuate between water spilling over the dam spillway and not. The Gold Creek reservoir has decreased slightly from the July update. Joseph Creek levels are still holding but is still being supported by the bypass flow with water from Gold Creek.
The City will continue to hold water restrictions at Stage 2 until further notice. Even numbered properties may water on Monday and Thursday. Odd numbered properties may water on Tuesday and Friday. You can water 5am to 10am OR 8pm to 11pm – not both to a maximum of two hours total. No watering is allowed on Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday.
