Cranbrook, BC (June 25, 2024) – Important townhall information sessions around the issues of homelessness and other social issues in Cranbrook, hosted by the Mayor’s Task Force On Homelessness, Community Safety and Wellbeing, are scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Both information sessions are open to the general public.
The first session is scheduled for from 10:00am to 12:00 pm in the sanctuary of the Dwelling Place, at 2324 2nd Street South. A second evening session has been added by the Task Force from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. No RSVP is required and the meeting space can accommodate up to 400 people.
“We have heard that residents requested an evening session in addition to the daytime townhall with the Mayor’s Task Force. Our volunteer task force members along with City representatives are pleased to offer both a daytime and evening session to share the recommendations created thus far and to receive any other solutions with Cranbrook residents,” says Avery Hulbert, Member of the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness.
“The members of the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness have spent several months listening and reviewing concerns and solutions raised by residents, businesses, unhoused and precariously housed individuals, and service providers in our community and are looking forward to sharing the recommendations with Cranbrook residents as to how we can collectively move forward to address and prevent homelessness in our community.”
The Mayor’s Task Force has developed a ‘Rules of Engagement’ document that every member of the public attending the townhall is asked to follow during the meeting. Attendees who wish to speak must provide your name and address, and if you come forward with a problem you are asked to also bring forward a solution. The intent of the rules is to help ensure the sessions can be most effective in addressing issues, making decisions, and ensuring everyone attending can speak and be heard.
Copies of the ‘Rules Of Engagement’ and a Frequently Asked Questions document will be made available to those attending when you arrive for one of the two sessions. We strongly encourage you to review these documents before the session begins.
