Cranbrook, BC (August 19, 2026) – The Chief Election Officer for the City of Cranbrook has provided official Notice of Nomination for the 2026 General Local Election.
Nominations will be received for the following offices:
City of Cranbrook
Mayor One (1)
Councillor Six (6)
School District No. 5 (Southeast Kootenay)
Trustees (City of Cranbrook and RDEK Area C) Five (5)
All nominations for qualified candidates will be received by appointment only with the Chief Election Officer or designate between Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 9:00 am and Friday, September 11, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. The nominations are by appointment only and exclude statutory holidays and weekends. No nominations will be accepted after the 4:00 p.m. deadline on Friday, September 11, 2026.
“Any Canadian citizen over the age of 18 is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of Council or the School Board,” says Sarann Press, Chief Election Officer. “As long as you have been a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months before your nomination papers are filed, and you are not disqualified by the Local Government Act/School Act or any other enactment, you are eligible to submit your nomination papers starting next month.”
In addition to the Notice of Nomination, the Chief Election Officer has also outlined the Campaign Expense Limits and Third Party Advertising Limits for election candidates, in accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act:
