Cranbrook, BC (July 6, 2023) – Public Works will be undertaking a significant multi-day uni-directional water flushing program during overnight hours starting Sunday, July 9 through until Friday, July 14, 2023.
The area to be impacted covers Van Horne Street to 13th Avenue South from 2nd Street South to Baker Street, then from Van Horne Street at 10th Avenue South (by Gerick Sports) along the length of Highway 3/Cranbrook Street north to Denham Ford.
This flushing project is being conducted in the overnight hours between 10pm and 8am to reduce the impact of any cloudy, or discoloured water on local businesses especially restaurants and hotels.
Those living or operating a business in this area may notice cloudy or discoloured water for a brief time after the flushing is done. It is important to know that this discolouration is not a public health concern. If you find your water is cloudy, please simply run your cold-water tap until the water runs clear.
This flushing program plays an essential role in addressing many issues within the potable water distribution system. Through a series of planned valve openings and closures, our crew can move water in a single direction at high velocities. This high velocity scouring of the water main removes sediment, scale, and biofilm, which improves water quality and lowers chlorine demand.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents, our business community, and visitors to Cranbrook while this flushing work is being completed.
