Cranbrook, BC (April 2, 2025) – Homeless Services Association of BC, in partnership with the Community Connections Society of Southeast BC will be conducting a Point-In-Time Count on Monday, April 14, 2025, in order to gain a deeper insight into homelessness trends , including both the systemic and structural factors driving this issue.
The goal is to ensure that all populations experiencing chronic or episodic homelessness are accurately represented, while also capturing the unique characteristics that contribute to homelessness in Cranbrook and impact future policies and services.
Cranbrook’s improved approach, to addressing homelessness, will support a refined methodology over previous years. This will ensure a more accurate and comprehensive picture of the local situation, with a key focus on better tracking of youth and senior homelessness - two populations often underrepresented due to their less visible presence.
“This may result in higher point-in-time numbers, but it’s important to recognize that this does not mean there is a rise in homelessness in Cranbrook, but rather a clearer picture based on more accurate data collection,” says Marcel Germer, Social Development Coordinator for the City of Cranbrook.
The findings from the point-in-time count will provide crucial insights to shape future housing solutions and development of resources and services in Cranbrook and across the province.
Count data will be available online through the Homelessness Services Association of BC website @ https://hsa-bc.ca/2024_25_Homeless_Counts.html.
