Cranbrook, BC (December 8, 2025) – Another successful season in 2025 for the Bird Canada e-scooter pilot program, which operated in Cranbrook from April 1 to November 1, 2025. The program continued to see strong use across the community, with several key indicators maintaining similar levels to the 2024 season.
A report to Council at their regular meeting Monday highlighted steady usage and strong repeat ridership in 2025.
Total rides increased by 3% in 2025, supported in part by a longer operating season that began two months earlier. While the number of unique riders decreased, those who used the service rode more often highlighting strong engagement from repeat users.
- Total Rides: 22,977 (up 3%)
- Unique Riders: 2,553 (down 20%)
- Average Rides per Rider: 9.0 (up 30%)
- Total Distance Travelled: 54,085 km (down 10%)
- CO₂ Saved: 4.67 tonnes (down 11%)
Ride data also shows a strong mix of trip types. Many riders used e-scooters for short trips within their neighbourhoods, while a significant number of users travelled longer distances across town. This suggests that e-scooters continue to provide both a fun recreation option and a practical micro-mobility choice for getting around Cranbrook.
