Cranbrook, BC (June 10, 2024) – Stream flow levels from both Joseph Creek and Gold Creek into the City’s Phillips Reservoir have decreased over the past couple of weeks, as the 2024 spring freshet period passes.
Administration provided Council with another update on the state of Cranbrook’s reservoir and watershed, at Council’s regular meeting on Monday night.
Despite Phillips Reservoir sitting at full pool, both Joseph Creek and Gold Creek each have seen water levels drop by 0.1 meters (3.9 inches) in the past two weeks, since Administration’s last update to Council on May, 27, 2024.
The average daily consumption of water in the City sits currently at approximately 3.2 million imperial gallons (13.7 million litres) per day. That is an increase of 101,060 imperial gallons (459,427 litres) per day from two weeks ago. With the temperatures sitting in the mid to high 20’s through the weekend, and forecast through this week, this is when we see increased outdoor water use, mostly for watering lawns.
“The Phillips Reservoir level is holding for now, however, with the expected reduction of flow from the reservoir’s tributaries, we are anticipating that level to begin dropping. We ask that all property owners to please respect the regulations of the Stage 2 Water restrictions as set out in the bylaw,” says Jason Perrault, Deputy Director, Public Works with the City of Cranbrook.
The City will remain under Stage 2 water restrictions until further notice. Even numbered properties may water on Monday and Thursday. Odd numbered properties may water on Tuesday and Friday. You can water 5am to 10am OR 8pm to 11pm – not both. No watering is allowed on Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday.
