Cranbrook, BC (April 1, 2025) – With up to 100 e-Scooters now out around the community for the season again, thanks to the City’s partnership with Bird Canada, it is important for e-Scooter users and the public to be aware of the road rules for the safety of everyone.
When you are out riding you must travel in bike lanes or on roads only. You are not allowed to ride e-Scooters on any sidewalk at any time. Helmets are necessary, one person per scooter (no double riders) and make sure to be mindful of surface conditions. Riders must also watch for pedestrians and vehicles, while obeying all local safety and traffic laws.
In Cranbrook, if the road has a speed limit of 50 km/hr or less, you must use a designated bike lane if one is available or stay as far right as possible. If the road has a speed limit above 50km/hr, you can only use a scooter on a designated bike lane. And you must obey all signs and traffic control devices at all times, like any other vehicle. Use of active transportation corridors or multi-use pathways is allowed, but e-Scooter riders must notify pedestrians and other pathway users you are coming with a bell or horn – just like a cyclist.
e-Scooters are allowed to operate within nearly all areas of the City of Cranbrook with some specific no ride zones in force, including around the hospital, highways, City parks and golf courses. A map highlighting the no-ride zones is provided for information below.
