Cranbrook, BC (January 27, 2026) – Construction fencing is going up today (January 27, 2026) around the site where the new childcare centre will be built next to Western Financial Place.
Roads and parks crews, and our carpenters with Public Works will be installing the fencing the next couple of days, along with removing the playground, the concrete pad where the senior’s exercise circuit was located, benches and the gazebo in the coming weeks. Neighbours and patrons coming and going from Western Financial Place will experience some noise as crews use jackhammers to remove the concrete during daytime and into evening hours.
The memorial trees on the site will start being relocated in April once the City reaches out to each of the donating families to discuss new locations for their respective trees.

As this pre-construction site work moves forward, the City’s engineering consultant McElhanney will be overseeing some geotechnical assessment work on the site to confirm the subsurface conditions before construction starts – which is tentatively slated for late spring 2026.
