What is a Programmable Above-Ground Sprinkler Timer?
Easy to install and usually inexpensive, programmable sprinkler timers are a great way to simplify watering your lawn and garden. Programmable above-ground sprinkler timers can be set up to water your lawn/garden based on the City’s water restriction stages. These timers are connected to your outdoor tap and control the start and stop of water flow to your hose.
If you need help setting up or changing your programmable sprinkler timer, please contact our Water Smart Ambassador at [email protected] or 250-417-7694 between May and August 2025. They will be happy to assist you in programming your sprinkler timer.
Any programmable above-ground sprinkler timers must be removed from your outdoor taps before winter.
What is a Rain Barrel?
Easy to install and usually inexpensive, rain barrels are an excellent way to conserve Cranbrook’s drinking water supply. Rain barrels collect rainwater from buildings and rooftops to be used at a later time. This water can be used for outdoor irrigation, reducing the need to use treated water from the tap.
Why Collect Rainwater?
- It is naturally soft and devoid of minerals, making it better for plants and soil.
- You will have your own water source in times of drought or water restrictions.
- Helps to supplement your outdoor water use, reducing strain on the reservoir when demand is highest and supply is lowest.
- Reduces stormwater run-off, preventing erosion and preserving creek health.
Rainwater is not treated; therefore, it is non-potable. Do not use this water to drink or cook with.
