Cranbrook, BC (November 30, 2021) – ‘Tis the season of shipping boxes, gift bags, wrapping paper, bows, and ribbons as the annual exchange of holiday gifts is upon us. The season also leaves us with the aftermath – wading through mountains of torn paper, envelopes and cards, boxes, and packaging of all kinds.
With the introduction of curbside recycling in the City of Cranbrook in May of this year, you now have a handy option at your doorstep to help manage the cleanup. But remembering what you can place in your curbside recycling cart, and what needs to be taken to the Cranbrook Transfer Station can be challenging.
“Most of your holiday packaging, paper and envelopes, gift bags and tissue paper can be recycled and left in your curbside cart,” says Katelyn Pocha, Project Manager with the City of Cranbrook. “Wrapping paper with glitter, foil or holographic material, along with ribbons, bows, bubble wrap and foam packing peanuts are not accepted for recycling because of the materials used in those items.”
To help you easily manage and sort what goes where this holiday season, visit our recycling webpage at www.cranbrook.ca/recycling and use our waste wizard. Type in whatever material you have that you want to recycle and the wizard will tell you how properly dispose of it – whether its in your curbside cart or taken to the Transfer Station.
You can also find your 2022 curbside recycling and garbage pickup dates online, too. You can download your zone schedule and maps or you can get printed copies at City Hall.
You can also sign up to have collection reminders delivered right to your smartphone and never miss another pickup day.
