Phillips Reservoir Water Levels Dropping As Heat Wave Settles In
Cranbrook, BC (July 15, 2024) -- Even with approximately 12mm of rainfall recorded in the watersheds since June 18, 2024, City of Cranbrook Administration is starting to see water levels dropping in the Phillips Reservoir as the hot weather continues.
Administration provided Council with another update on the state of Cranbrook’s reservoir and watershed, at Council’s regular meeting Monday night.
The average flow through the Phillips Reservoir since the last public update on June 24, 2024 is 3.62 million imperial gallons per day (IGPD) or 16.46 million litres per day, which is a decrease of 37,970 IGPD or 172,615 litres per day from three weeks ago. Compared to the same period in 2023, we have seen an overall water consumption decrease of an average of 1.01 million IGPD (4.59 million litres).
The Gold Creek reservoir level is holding after closing the flood gates a few weeks ago, which is currently maintaining water levels. Joseph Creek is also holding from the past report; however, the City is supporting Joseph Creek with water from Gold Creek via the bypass.
The City will continue to hold water restrictions at Stage 2 until further notice. Even numbered properties may water on Monday and Thursday. Odd numbered properties may water on Tuesday and Friday. You can water 5am to 10am OR 8pm to 11pm – not both to a maximum of 2 hours. No watering is allowed on Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday.
