Cranbrook, BC (May 15, 2023) – Important brush thinning work along a section of the Rails to Trails is scheduled for Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21, 2023, in partnership with Dogtown Fire & Fuels Management.
The thinning work is focused on improving sight lines and helping reduce the risk of wildfire along the trail. This two-phase project will start on the section of trail from the train bridge over the St. Mary River through to the Wycliffe Park Road parking lot at the entrance to Shadow Mountain.
While this work is being done, this portion of the Rails to Trails will be closed to all public access for the safety of our trail users and the safety of our staff and our contractor. Signage and information will be posted in the areas being worked on. A detour route will be in place for Rails to Trails users to instead travel along Wycliffe Park Road while this work is being done.
There are also several excellent riding trails close by including the Chief Isadore Trail, South Star Recreation Trails, and the Cranbrook Community Forest. Visit https://cranbrooktourism.com/things-to-do/biking for lots of great biking alternative areas, maps and more.
We thank all users of Rails to Trails for their understanding while this work is completed.
