Cranbrook, BC (July 8, 2021) -- The City of Cranbrook will be resurfacing Cobham Avenue from Laurier Street through to Jim Smith Lake Road starting the week of July 12, 2021.
Single lane alternating traffic control will be in place, and access to businesses and residences will be maintained as much as possible except for times when paving equipment is working in the immediate vicinity. Notification to affected property owners is being provided by the contractor, BA Blacktop.
The first phase of Cobham Avenue was reconstructed in 2018, and the goal has always been to get the remaining section upgraded in subsequent annual road programs. A community planning process was recently undertaken to determine the feasibility of a Local Area Service project which would extend water and sewer services into the area; however, the required support was not in place to move that forward. That gave the City the green light to proceed with a more conventional resurfacing project, leaving future widening and servicing to take place when triggered by redevelopment.
“I’m very happy to see this remaining section of Cobham Avenue resurfaced recognizing that it serves some major industrial businesses as well as City and area residents,” says Mayor Lee Pratt. “This is another important step in continuing to improve the quality of our road network in Cranbrook.”
Please remember to slow down and follow all signage and direction provided by any flagging staff in place during this road work. Please be aware that workers are present for their safety.
