Cranbrook, BC (May 5, 2022) – Over 480 tonnes of recyclable material has been collected from curbside bins in Cranbrook over the last year, as the City’s curbside recycling program marks its first anniversary.

With 6,242 recycling bins collected every two weeks that means the average residence with curbside recycling service recycled 77 kg of material last year, roughly the average weight of one full-grown human.

“I want to thank all of our residents for the ongoing support of our curbside recycling service over the last year,” says Mayor Lee Pratt.  “The amount of material we have been able to keep out of our landfill is impressive, and could not have happened without people embracing curbside recycling.  A big thank you as well to our staff, the RDEK and RecycleBC for their support of this important initiative.”

It is important for residents to remember that materials like glass, plastic bags, plastic overwrap, other flexible plastic packaging and foam packaging are all recyclable but must be dropped off at the RecycleBC Depot at the Cranbrook Transfer Station – not left in your curbside recycling carts.
