Cranbrook, BC (December 22, 2022) – Residents across the City of Cranbrook are waking up to bitterly cold temperatures, with some of them discovering frozen water pipes in their homes.
Public Works has responded to calls from eight different homeowners today so far.
Public Works is not able to provide assistance in thawing frozen water lines. Those who may have frozen pipes are encouraged to contact one of our many local plumbing companies for tips or to provide assistance in safely getting their water flowing.
To help prevent frozen pipes, we are asking you to please run a cold-water tap continuously in your home for the next few days. Leaving a stream of water running about the diameter of a drinking straw or a pencil is enough to help prevent pipes from freezing.
Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures to rise to levels that are more seasonable Friday evening into Saturday, with overnight lows expected around -9 degrees.
