Cranbrook, BC (November 19, 2024) – As we begin to move into the winter months, it is important for residents to remember that the proper placement of both your garbage and recycling carts is a must for this material to be safely collected once the snow starts.
Proper cart placement ensures the mechanized trucks can collect your garbage and recycling this winter. Please make sure that you don’t place your carts on top of windrows or behind snow piles. Face your cart with the arrows facing the street and the wheels against the curb, the windrow, or the snow pile. Making sure that the carts are at least 1 m (3.2 ft) away from any other obstacle like parked cars, poles, or fire hydrants is also important.
To help improve residential snow removal operations, we also request that you please place your carts out for pickup by 7:30am on your collection day – not the night before. This will reduce potential damage to your carts and reduce the risk of your bins tipping over and making a mess of the street.
And as the weather is getting colder, people will be using their woodstoves and fireplaces regularly. For the safety of our staff, remember that any ashes you intend to dispose of are fully extinguished and cold to the touch before they are thrown out. Placing cold ashes in its own bag before placing them into your garbage bin ensures that we don’t get ash all over our trucks and cameras.
