Cranbrook, BC (September 12, 2023) – Identifying and changing inequitable systems in the community, while attracting and retaining a diverse workforce reflective of Cranbrook remains the driving focus of the City’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program.
On Monday night, staff provided Council with an update on the DEI process to date, highlighting that the project team has successfully completed the requirements of the Accessible British Columbia Act ahead of the September 1, 2023, deadline. This included forming a interim committee, while creating a plan forward and establishing a feedback mechanism for public input.
“Through our consultants, we’ve been busy engaging with the community through interviews, a focus group and a booth at the Farmer’s Market back in August, with more engagement opportunities coming before the end of the year,” says Amanda Gnucci, Human Resources Business Partner with the City of Cranbrook.
Through the consultant team, a robust audit of all of the City’s bylaws, policies, procedures and reports is also underway, in tandem with the public engagement work. All this information gathering will result in the creation of a DEI strategy and action plan, expected by the end of 2023.
