Each year, we undertake mosquito control activities to help minimize the number of mosquitos we may see each spring and summer.
The City has Morrow Bioscience Limited under contract to undertake this important work for us. Morrow Bioscience uses both Vectobac and Vectolex when treating areas in and around the City to kill mosquito larvae before they become adult, and thirsty, mosquitos.
Treatment for mosquitos typically begins in late April of each year on a variety of potential mosquito breeding sites around the community. These sites are continually monitored and treated as needed throughout each season.
Keeping standing water to a minimum around your home or property goes a long way to help keep the mosquito population low. Regularly checking and draining standing water is something that everyone can do to help be a part of the solution. Some places to stop standing water include:
• Tires and tarps, canoes and boats, bird baths and feeders
• Untreated or unmaintained pools or ponds, kid’s pools, and toys
• Outside pet dishes, trays under flowerpots and clogged gutters and ditches
