I am excited to announce that I am running for Trustee on School District No 5’s Board of Education.
Having worked for Sd 5 for 30 years, I am an advocate for youth in our school system. I started my career in Sd 5 as a Child Care Worker for fifteen years, then I became a Youth Care Worker in the District’s Alternate program. When that ended, I continued as a Youth Care worker at Amy Woodland Elementary School.
While working for Sd 5, I spent years on the CUPE Local 4165 Executive, with thirteen of them as President. I fought tirelessly for our members, and to improve the school system while facing cutbacks of positions that were essential to maintain the health and safety of our schools. I fought for funding to provide equal opportunities for students across our district. These experiences established an understanding of the school system and strengthened many partnerships with parents, educators, support staff, and administration.
I grew up and attended school in Cranbrook, so did my children, and now two of my Grandchildren attend Sd 5. I have the passion, experience, and dedication to ensure that funds are fairly allocated to support the learning needs of all students. I want to make certain that every student is included and supported in our classrooms and that every school has the means to deliver a quality education in safe clean facilities, so that our next generation has every opportunity they need to succeed and thrive.
