As a leader in the community, the City has an important role in demonstrating the importance of implementing climate action priorities. This Corporate Climate Action Plan (Corporate Plan) provides actions for the City to decrease corporate energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission in areas such as corporate facilities, fleet, and waste management.
The greatest contributions for the City in reducing GHG emissions at a corporate level include:
- Completing the Western Financial Place pool dehumidification project;
- Converting the primary heating at the airport from natural gas boiler to an electric heat pump (in progress)
- HVAC improvements at several City buildings; and
- Upgrades of lighting to LED (including street lights).

The City has set targets for 2030 (40% reduction) and 2050 (80% reduction), with the year 2012 established as a baseline.
The City’s Climate Action Initiatives have been separated into four categories that have impact on reducing GHG emissions in the community. This focuses on the types of GHG emission reduction initiatives that can be completed at a corporate level.
