Shortly after graduating from UBC with bachelor degrees in both Commerce and Law, I moved to Cranbrook in March, 1987 with my wife of 32 years, Frances. We have 7 children (3 married and living in Cranbrook, one in Lethbridge who is engaged to be married this summer, and our 3 youngest still living at home (one attending COTR and two attending Mt. Baker high school)). We have 4 grandchildren, with our 5th due in May, 2019.
I am a lawyer and founding partner of the law firm, Miles, Zimmer & Associates, established in 1995.
I am an active community volunteer - two terms as City Councillor, former Chair of the Cranbrook Hospital Board, past-President (twice) of the Kinsmen and past member of Rotary.
Until 2018, for over 25 continuous years, I spent numerous volunteer hours coaching my kids in lacrosse (I am a co-founder in Cranbrook), hockey and soccer.
I also offer several years’ experience working in a boardroom setting with Columbia Basin Trust, Columbia Power Corporation, the BC Assessment Authority and since its incorporation in 2011, I continue to Chair the Columbia Basin Broadband Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Trust.
I offer many years of valuable experience reviewing and scrutinizing financial statements, operating and capital budgets, shaping policy and contributing my analytical skills in a team environment to assist in making difficult decisions.
I believe I am uniquely qualified with the right experience and proven leadership to be a valuable contribution to Cranbrook’s City Council.
