Cranbrook, BC (September 21, 2022) – A number of the City’s major capital works projects are fully complete with several others well underway, as the construction season begins to wind down.

In an update to Council at their regular meeting on Tuesday September 20, 2022, staff highlighted significant projects like the 2022 paving program, the Mount Royal Phase 2 reconstruction and the 4th Street North reconstruction projects are complete. 

Sludge removal continues on the Lagoons Cell 1 upgrades project.  Bypass piping installation is now underway.  Due to some delays and site conditions, this project will not be fully complete until the spring of 2023.

Work to upgrade the intersection of McPhee Road and Theatre Road is underway, with Gally Equipment Services undertaking the project.  McPhee Road from Theatre Road to Industrial Road F will be closed for the next four weeks to allow for deep utility upgrades and conduit installation to occur.  This project will also see improvements made to the rail crossing and the installation of permanent traffic lights at the intersection.

Pressure reducing valve reconstruction work at the entrance to Wildstone is moving along well, with the new station now operational and the new building has been assembled.  Detailed planning is underway for an overnight shutdown in early October 2022 to safely dismantle the existing building.  The City will provide notice to the public well in advance of this planned shutdown.  Site restoration work, including concrete curb and sidewalk will follow once demolition work is complete.

The new creek channel and flood bench are fully constructed as part of the Joseph Creek Rehabilitation work at 15th Avenue South and 1st Street South.  Flex retaining work is wrapped up, along with the installation of the new concrete box culvert for property access.  The contractor is waiting on the protective surface and railing for the culvert and for the paving to be completed. Native plant species are expected to be planted in October.
