Cranbrook, BC (March 20, 2020) – Cranbrook Transit plays an important role in transporting people around Cranbrook and will continue operations and be welcoming customers to ride the bus until further notice.
The City of Cranbrook, in partnership with BC Transit and our local operators will continue to monitor this situation closely and may need to reduce the number of bus routes and consider changing schedule times moving forward. We will continue to provide information to the public as the situation changes.
Effective Wednesday April 1, 2020 the City of Cranbrook will make all rides on transit in Cranbrook free to customers.
With the closure of all City offices and facilities, there is currently no availability for the public to purchase daily or monthly transit passes. Residents with monthly transit passes for March 2020, please continue to use those. Those who use day passes are asked to please simply pay the normal cash fare on the bus until the end of March. For those customers who utilize the Leisure Access Pass, your passes remain active through to the end of March, after which you will be able to ride the bus for free for the month of April.
Cleaning and sanitizing protocols have been increased to ensure the health and safety to all transit users in the face of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Riders are strongly encouraged to practice social distancing on the bus:
- Stand behind the red line on the bus.
- Access the back of the bus, if available.
- Be courteous to fellow passengers.
- If necessary, move around the bus to an open space.
- Please avoid any travel by bus if you are not feeling well.
BC Transit has also set up a page on their website to provide ongoing updates to our customers on COVID-19 at https://bctransit.com/covid19.
