Cranbook
Chris Johns continues to be a tireless hard working supporter of, and advocate for, the public school system. First elected as a School Trustee (SD #5 Southeast Kootenay) in 2008, Johns has served successive terms representing Cranbrook and Area C and is actively seeking re-election on October 17, 2026.
Chris Johns had been a teacher for more than 36 years with successful teaching experience at the elementary, junior and senior secondary grades and for 28 years in Cranbrook prior to retirement in June of 2008. He has also been a student-teacher supervisor for the University of Victoria/College of the Rockies Teachers’ Education Program for six years.
Johns stated, “In my extensive experience I’ve witnessed first hand the importance of the advocacy and engagement by parents and stakeholders for decision-making that is based on the best interests of students.”
“Provincial funding is not keeping up with the increases in what it costs to operate the School District. Since the Covid years we are experiencing increased needs of our students and the present special education funding formula isn’t adequate to meet these needs.”
“Combined with the future of both Mount Baker Secondary and Amy Woodland Elementary, I’m up for the challenges and with your support I will keep working hard every day to provide the very best public education for all of our Cranbrook and Area C students.”
