Cranbook
A Cranbrook resident since 1998, McGowan brings more than three decades of municipal, infrastructure and community experience to his campaign for Cranbrook City Council.
During 19 years with the City of Cranbrook, McGowan served as Director of Public Works and later as Director of Infrastructure Planning and Delivery. His career gave him first-hand experience with the infrastructure and services that keep Cranbrook running—from roads, water and wastewater systems to parks, buildings, fleet, solid waste and major capital projects.
McGowan has been involved in long-term planning and practical solutions to some of the city's most important infrastructure challenges. His work included advancing asset-management practices, initiatives to reduce water loss and long-term wastewater planning. He understands that municipal decisions have real consequences for taxpayers and that responsible planning today can help avoid greater costs tomorrow.
Community service has always been an important part of McGowan’s life. He coached girls’ basketball in Cranbrook for 14 years, served six years with the Kinsmen Club and has twice served as President of the Rotary Club of Cranbrook. Through Rotary, he helped lead community projects at Idlewild Park, Moir Park and J. Fred Scott Villa.
McGowan believes effective local government starts with listening, practical decision-making and accountability. His professional experience, community involvement and understanding of Cranbrook’s infrastructure needs provide a strong foundation for serving residents at City Hall.
For McGowan, public service is about more than holding a position—it’s about working with the community to build a strong, sustainable future for Cranbrook.
