I’m Irene Bischler, and I am running for re-election in SD5 as a School Trustee. I have served the past 4 years on this board and feel I still have a lot to offer.
I’ve lived in Cranbrook my whole life and have dedicated a lot of time to my community. In the past I’ve enjoyed teaching figure skating and power skating but now I spend a lot of my free time gardening, fishing, curling, playing hockey and making meals for seniors. Having worked for 30 years as a CUPE member (10 years as an Educational Assistant and 20 years as a Youth Care Worker), as well as serving as CUPE president for 12 years, I am in touch with the issues that occur in the classroom and schools. My work experience has really helped me in my role as a School Trustee.
I have a passion for ensuring a great future for all and the common sense to make great things happen. I take the role and responsibility of School Trustee very seriously. My husband Jerry and I raised our two boys here and now have two grandchildren enrolled in SD5. Having people on the board who are financially responsible, ask tough questions, expect accountability and stay connected to issues is extremely important. Strong educational outcomes for all and a system where schools and students feel supported in what they need to be successful is my focus and commitment. Together we have work to do on this!
