After graduating from UBC with Bachelor degrees in both Commerce and Law, I moved to Cranbrook in March 1987, raised my family and built a successful law practice.
I have an extensive history as an active community volunteer - two terms as City Councillor (1996-2002), Chair of the Cranbrook Hospital Board, past-President (twice) of the Kinsmen and a member of Rotary.
For over 25 continuous years, until 2018, I coached my 7 kids in hockey, soccer and lacrosse (I am a co-founder of the Cranbrook Minor Lacrosse Association).
Since leaving City Council in 2002, I acquired more directly transferable skills ideally suited for a seat at the City Council table through my work on public sector boards with Columbia Basin Trust (9 years), Columbia Power Corporation (6 years), and the BC Assessment Authority (4 years). Since its incorporation in 2011 until its sale to a private entity earlier this year, I Chaired the Columbia Basin Broadband Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Trust, tasked with introducing high speed internet to the entire Columbia Basin.
With my legal background and boardroom experience, I have the necessary familiarity with budgets, shaping policy and utilizing my analytical skills to make difficult and complex decisions.
Nearing retirement, I want to give back to my community in a way that I believe I can help.
I am uniquely qualified with the right kind of experience and proven leadership skills to make valuable contributions to Cranbrook’s next City Council.
