Cranbrook, BC (November 27, 2020) -- Local artist Ron Demaniuk (second from right) and partner Darlene (far right) are joined by Mayor Lee Pratt (second from left) and Chris New, Director of Recreation & Culture (far left) Friday afternoon to officially mark the installation of the new eagle sculpture at Harmony Park.
The sculpture was part of the City’s goals to improve community vibrancy through initiatives such as increasing public art opportunities. The sculpture, titled ‘Spirit of Freedom’ features an eagle with a 30’ wingspan, which took Demaniuk over 350 hours to create.
The project could not have moved forward without the financial support of the Columbia Basin Trust Public Art Grant program, with additional funding from Cranbrook Tourism, the Cranbrook and District Arts Council, and the City of Cranbrook.
